This article discusses the design of fast frame rate bistable cholesteric (BCT) reflective displays. In theory, the influence of the relaxation time from the vertical arrangement to the planar arrangement on the brightness is studied. The effects of frame rate, interlaced ratio and display size on brightness and contrast were determined experimentally and some profiles of driving waveforms were provided.
