鹭岛厦门——祖国东南沿海的海滨城市,全市面积555平方公里,人口54万。其中特区岛内面积131平方方公里,人口34万多。厦门素以“海上花园”之称而闻名于世。是海外侨胞、港澳同胞、外国友人和国内广大群众向往的旅游城市。最近,厦门市的鼓浪屿和爱国华侨老人陈嘉庚先生的家乡——集美又被评为全省十佳风景区之榜首。同时厦门还是我国主要港口之一。1980年10月,中央决定在湖里区划2.5平方公里为经济特区,1984年4月特区扩至全岛。随着特区建设的飞速发展,厦门的邮政通信事业也在腾飞。正如百花园中的一朵奇葩,大放异彩、引人瞩目。
