Vera Cather is the first American female writer in the history of American literature to describe the novels of the pioneering era in the western United States. With the rapid economic and industrial development, Cather deeply realized that people’s blind pursuit of material interests will surely endanger people’s spiritual life. In her series of pioneering novels in the west, she reveals the crisis of human nature under the prevailing commercial culture of capitalism, expresses her dissatisfaction with people’s advocacy of material modern society, shows the author’s memory of the beautiful pioneering era and the search for human spiritual homeland. Today, as the global ecological crisis intensifies, the pioneering spirit Caesar sticks to and the living ideal it expounds provide the value orientation for mankind to step out of the spiritual wasteland and find the poetic homeland.
