作为象征主义领袖之一的马拉美,直到20世纪二三十年代卞之琳才把他部分的诗作译介到中国,我国的学者并不认同象征主义的创作原则与马拉美有直接的关系。实际上,波德莱尔的诗歌美学虽然提出了新颖和富有创造性的理论,但他却没有在自己的诗歌创作中全部实现自己的理论,而他的理论的真正实践者是马拉美,魏尔伦和兰波等人。瓦雷里就曾说过:“马拉美在诗的完美和纯正方面发扬了波德莱尔。”当时影响全面认识马拉美的原因,一方面是他的诗作留下来的很少,被译介到中国来的少之又少,另一方面是受时代、文化等各种因素的制约。
