Recent evidence from the United Kingdom and the United States observed that systemic lupus erythematosus is an evolving disease. There are two most noteworthy trends, one of which is an improvement in the overall prognosis and the other is an improvement in the CNS lesions that are implicated in systemic lupus erythematosus. Merrell and Shulman reported in 1954 that in 99 patients seen in a hospital, after a diagnosis of systemic lupus erythematosus, the 4-year survival rate was 51%, but after 5 years, the 5-year survival rate was 69 %; To 5 years in 1971 to 76.9% survival rate, the 10-year survival rate was 59.1%. Race, gender or age at onset did not affect survival. The improvement of the treatment may or may not be related to the improvement of the prognosis. It is more likely that the improvement of the mortality rate due to the recognition of the lighter systemic lupus erythematosus
