From the perspective of spatial accessibility, this article analyzes the contrast between Hong Kong and Guangzhou in the first urban competition in the Greater Pearl River Delta (Greater Pearl River Delta) from 1990 to 2020. Guangzhou has enjoyed a favorable position in terms of the average travel time of the two cities to other cities in the region. The advantages of transport links with the western part of the Greater Pearl River Delta are especially obvious. After the completion of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, Hong Kong has lagged far behind Guangzhou in its connection with the western part of the Greater Pearl River Delta. Hong Kong has a slight advantage in terms of transport links with the eastern part of the Greater Pearl River Delta. In economic terms, Hong Kong has been dominant before; however, if the two cities maintain their respective economic growth over the past five years within the next 10 years, Guangzhou's economy will be closer to Hong Kong. In addition, Guangzhou and the cities in the region Relatively more convenient traffic links, Guangzhou's influence will probably exceed Hong Kong.
