如果说,苏童的小说《妻妾成群》在被张艺谋改编成电影《大红灯笼高高挂》时,主要做的是“减法”;那么,赵本夫的小说《天下无贼》被冯小刚改编成同名电影时,则主要做的是“加法”。一是增加了故事的主线,从3条线变成4条线;二是在丰富已有人物性格和人物关系的同时,增设了一些小说中没有的人物;三是故事发生的环境或背景有所增加和丰富;四是故事情节的增加;五是语言的幽默和反讽色彩得到渲染;六是理想主义、温情主义以及宗教主义色彩的增强。这恰恰映证了赵本夫的一句话:“小说是自己的,电影是冯小刚的。”无疑,赵本夫是理解小说家与编剧的差别所在。而这一点,也正是赵本夫面对影视时,作为一个小说家的自觉之处。
