Objective To investigate the role of total antioxidative capacity (T-AOC) and nitric oxide (NO) in the contralateral testicular damage on one side of the testis. Methods The left testes torsion model was established in male SD rats and then subdivided into torsion testis resection and resection groups at 6h after torsion. Four to five mice were sacrificed at 1h, 1d, 1 week, 2 weeks and 4 weeks after operation, respectively. For nitric oxide synthase (NOS) activity, NO, T-AOC and apoptosis test. Results After the UTT reduction, the activity of NOS in the contralateral testis tissue was significantly increased, while the content of T-AOC was significantly decreased. Conclusion The excessive production of NO and the decrease of T-AOC are the important causes of contralateral testicular injury in UTT.
