A total of 121 cultivated auricle (Auricularia) samples or strains were collected from the provinces of the country and classified according to their internal structure and external morphology. Of these, 94 were Auricularia auricula (Hook. Underw) and 27 were Auricularia fuscosuccinea (Mont.) Farlow. The distribution of the latter species in China is yet to be officially reported. Most samples of brown edible fungus are collected from provinces in southwest China. The article also points out the features that are easily confused and distinguishable between two species, mainly based on the distinctive medulla in the internal structure of the fungus.
