On the afternoon of November 5, Sir John Daniel, the Assistant Director-General for UNESCO who came to attend the 2003 World University Presidents’ Conference, accepted an exclusive interview with this magazine. Earlier, we routinely gave Sir Daniel an appointment for an interview and received an automatic reply that he was attending meetings and research in Sweden, Spain and other places and could not process mail within two weeks. After that, he learned from the conference group that his schedule during the conference was already full, only arrived at Shanghai noon on the 5th and had not arranged for this period after lunch, but it was for Lawton, Sir Daniel’s break to eliminate journeys. As well as preparing for the day’s thematic presentation at the opening of the 2003 World University Presidents’ Meeting. But he still happily accepted our interview. His vision of distance education and its development trend give us a lot of inspiration.
