文艺是上层建筑,必须为经济基础服务,服务得好,可以促进经济基础的发展和巩固,如果服务得不好,它也会妨碍经济基础的发展,甚至会促使经济基础变质。我们革命的文艺一定要为社会主义革命和社会主义建设服务,促进社会主义经济基础的发展和巩固。文艺是革命的武器。当前我们的文艺有双重的革命任务:在国内,要以社会主义、共产主义思想教育全体人民;在国际上,要对帝国主义、反动派和现代修正主义作斗争,支持各国人民的革命斗争。党的“百花齐放、百家争鸣、推陈出新”的方针是坚定不移的。只要是不违反六项政治标准的作品,包括戏剧在内,都允许存在。不这样做,就会犯“左”的错误。但是,我们最重要的任务是提倡革命的、反映现实生活的作品,提倡文艺为工农兵服务,为社会主义革命与社会主义建设服务,提倡文艺工作者进行思想改造,参加劳动,同工农兵打成一片。不这样做,就会犯右的错误,犯现代修正主义性质的错误。有计划地开展血吸虫病防治工作,是保护农业第一线的劳动力、促进农业生产的重大任务。经验证明:血吸虫病是可以逐步做到彻底消灭的。
