台湾著名未来学者温世仁认为：“基因技术会在瞬间之内释放出巨大的商业价值。 就像网络一样，在过去的几年间突然爆发。基因是生命的本源，这都可以形成知识产权，还有什么不可以成为产权的呢？而基因文明控制你的生命进程，你不付费，你的生命延续都成问题，对这种知识产权的保护已从人为变成自然”。 全球首富比尔·盖茨更是预言：“超过我的下一个首富必定出自基因领域”。
