醛糖还原酶（ＡＲ）在糖性白内障和其它糖尿病并发症的发病中起着关键性的作用。为从大量中草药及其化学成份中筛选有效低毒的醛糖还原酶抑制剂（ＡＲＩ），建立了猪晶状体ＡＲ的测定方法，其研究了知母等４０种中药水提取液对ＡＲ的抑制作用。发现知母对ＡＲ有较强的抑制作用，其ＩＣ５０为１９ｍｇ／Ｌ。
Aldose reductase (AR) plays a key role in the pathogenesis of glycocalyx and other diabetic complications. In order to screen effective low-toxic aldose reductase inhibitors (ARI) from a large number of Chinese herbal medicines and their chemical components, a method for the determination of porcine lens AR was established. The inhibitory effect of 40 kinds of traditional Chinese medicine aqueous extracts on AR was studied. . Anemarrhenae was found to have a strong inhibitory effect on AR, with an IC50 of 19 mg/L.
