国家教委高教司有关领导在谈到普通高等专科学校英语课教学基本任务时指出:“英语对专科学生来说是一门工具课。作用有两项:第一项是用来获取信息;第二项是进行必要的交流。英语的教学目的主要有两个:一是掌握必需的、实用的语言知识和语言技能;二是培养学生阅读和翻译本专业英文资料的初步能力。”据此,工科专科学生阅读能力与翻译能力的高低应该是衡量英语教学及学生英语水平的重要标准。本文拟就如何提高学生英语阅读速度谈几点浅见。
