OBJECTIVE: To explore the necessity of building a service culture of blood banks by analyzing the changes of the rate of adverse reactions of blood donation in unpaid blood donors. Methods: A questionnaire on health status of unpaid blood donors from 2001 to 2010 was collected. Adverse reactions recorded in blood donors were divided into two groups according to the time period: group A from 2001 to 2005 and group B from 2006 to 2010. Results: The rates of mild, moderate and severe reactions in group B were significantly lower than those in group A (P <0.01), and there was significant difference between the two groups (P <0.01). The B group was lower than the A group. The first blood donation and more than 2 times blood donation response rate were lower in group B than in group A, the difference between the two groups was statistically significant (P <0.01). CONCLUSION: It is of decisive significance to construct a culture of blood service station to prevent and eliminate the adverse effects of various adverse factors on blood donors and reduce the rate of blood donation response.
