宝鸡市两年举办一届戏剧节,这就是说,每隔两年,我能有一次摸索试验的机会。平时排戏首先要考虑能否卖座挣钱,全团百十口人等着吃饭,赔了本没脸见父老兄弟。革新,说说罢了,要来真格的,得钱。我们全团上下谁也明白,话剧再按老一套演,剧团早晚得关门。看着观众退潮一般地退出剧场,我感到他们在踩着我的心往出走。所以对于我们这样一个地市话剧团来说,话剧艺术的革新已经不再是个理论问题,它已经实实在在地变成了我们的生计。革新的目标很具体,那就是叫回观众,留住观众,请他们别忘了我们。
