Paul Wigner, a famous American biblical scholar, put forward some important principles for Bible translation. Based on these principles, we can see that the study of Bible Chinese translation today is not enough to draw lessons from the textual identification, especially how the discoveries of the Dead Sea scroll affect the translation of the Bible. Bible translators need to emphasize the notion of “basic texts.” On the basis of section-by-section comparison of the texts of the Book of Isaiah in Dead Sea Scrolls and the texts of Israels (Isaiah), the author compares the modern Chinese version (1979) and the new version (1992) (2003) and the revised edition (2010), and examining their translational relationship with the Dead Sea Scrolls, we can conclude that Paul Wagner’s translation theory is an important guide to Bible translation significance. Specifically, the study of Chinese Bible translation should give full consideration to four aspects: basic texts, translation principles, language changes and theological perspectives.
