保罗·斯科特是20世纪英国文坛一位重要的小说家,其涉印题材小说“统治四部曲”(the Raj Quartet)在英国文坛占据一席之地,带有其后续色彩的小说《眷恋》(Staying On)为斯科特赢得了1977年的布克奖。本文拟用小说中被广泛应用的修辞手法——反讽来分析《眷恋》的故事情节的发展,人物形象的塑造,场景的描写,及主题的展现,以探讨反讽在这部小说中体现的艺术价值与魅力。
Paul Scott is an important novelist in the 20th century English literary world. The Scottish novels “The Raj Quartet” occupies a place in the English literary world with its follow-up color “Nostalgia” (Staying On) won Scott’s 1977 Booker Prize. This article intends to use the rhetorical device - irony widely used in the novel to analyze the development of the plot of “attachment”, the creation of characters, the description of the scenes and the theme, in order to explore the art of irony in this novel Value and charm.
