In February 1994, an American, Stephen Mobley, was convicted of murdering a pizza parlor manager, John Collins, and was sentenced to death. When his lawyer called for the death penalty to be commuted to life imprisonment in his appeal, he proposed heredity as a defense. They said that Mobley came from a family that had been a liar and a criminal for generations and that perhaps he had killed Collins because of his genes; he was not responsible for it, he was just an automated genetic decision machine.
