1973年在江苏省水稻上发现由霜霉目真菌引起的病害,主要受害的是叶片,叶片上产生不规则条斑。经鉴定,这是一种由疫霉属(Phytophthora)真菌引起的新病害。该致病菌与草莓疫霉(P·fragariae Hickm·)很相近,但在一些方面又有明显差异,特别是雄器位置和致病性不同,所以认为是草莓疫霉的一个新变种,定名为稻苗疫霉(Phytophthora fragariae Hickm·var.oryzo-bladis Wang et Lu,var.nov.)。在自然情况下,该菌很容易在受害叶片上产生孢子囊和卵孢子。孢囊梗由气孔伸出,菌丝状,单生或呈假轴分枝,长度可达405—675微米,宽度2.9—5.9微米。孢子囊倒梨形或长椭圆形,长43.1—67—93.1微米,宽28.8—42.8—57.5微米。孔口平阔,孔径11.5—20微米。藏卵器表面平滑,黄褐色,近球形或不规则球形,直径39.9—46.9—58.1微米,壁厚2.2微米。卵孢子球形,淡黄褐色,直径27.2—35.5—48微米,壁厚3微米。雄器穿雄生,球形或不规则球形,大小为15—30×12.2—25.9微米,平均21.9×19.2微米。约11%的雄器上有短小突起。
