作为法国大革命最早的批评者之一,柏克在其不同的著作中,从根本原则上对法国大革命进行了批判。基于英国人的自由观,他认为法国大革命的激进民主将会威胁欧洲的自由传统,实质上是以英国式的自由拒绝了法国式的平等,不过柏克却没有看到民主已经成为了历史趋势。了解柏克对于法国革命的看法,有助于理解18世纪末欧洲政治现代化中的复杂政治观念。
As one of the earliest critics of the French Revolution, Burke criticized the French Revolution fundamentally in his different writings. Based on the British concept of freedom, he believes that the radical democracy of the French Revolution will threaten the European tradition of freedom. In essence, it has rejected French-style equality with British freedom. However, Burke did not see that democracy has become a historical trend . Understanding Burke’s view of the French revolution helps to understand the complex political concepts in European political modernization in the late 18th century.
