昆虫不育技术(SIT)成功用于几种主要害虫的防治已证明比化学方法更有效、且价格更低廉。此技术初创于美国并在FAO/LAEA维也纳联合分支机构得到发展,在防治新大陆旋丽蝇幼虫、舌蝇蝇和果蝇方面已取得相当大的成功。最喜人的是SIT在防治害虫时对环境友好,有希望有更多的政府当局和私人会采用这种技术作为大区域综合根除害虫活动
The successful application of SIT to the control of several major pests has proven to be more efficient and cheaper than chemical methods. This technology was first established in the United States and developed at the joint FAO / LAEA Vienna branch and has achieved considerable success in the control of the Neospreur spinous larvae, tsetse fly and fruit fly. The best news is that SIT is environmentally friendly when it comes to pest control and there is hope that more and more government authorities and private individuals will adopt this technology as a comprehensive pest-eradication program in the wider region
