Due to the overcapacity of investment in the past two years and the panic price cuts by the industry, this year’s global semiconductor revenue will decline by 25% from the previous year to 30%. In the past 30 years, the semiconductor industry has joined the United States, Japan, Taiwan, South Korea and Singapore. Currently, the mainland has rapidly expanded its semiconductor production capacity and concentrated on foundry operations. Although there is no lack of Taiwanese companies, it is not that Taiwan’s major semiconductor companies can ensure that the tragedies of excess semiconductor capacity will not repeat itself around 2005. The semiconductor industry is facing the worst recession in history due to the decline in sales of personal computers and mobile communications. With the continuous development and introduction of new information applications products, the semiconductor industry will continue to grow at an average rate of 15% per year in the next decade. The impact of semiconductors at the end of reduced demand is far more significant than in other information electronics industries, such as 2001.
