A Widowed Concubine of Emperor Kangxi in Wutai Mountains is a TV serial that depicts the romance between Emperor Kangxi of Qing Dynasty and Mei Gu, an ordinary girl residing in Wutai Mountains. The TV serial is a melodrama appealing to the public’s aesthetic taste. As a soap opera, the serial gives prominence to pleasurableness and entertainment in its story, and attaches importance to theatrics（full of suspense, conflicts, and twists and turns）in its plot. And in its content, the play mainly reflects the life, sentiments, needs, and dreams of the mundane world. It is a sort of déjèvu from a modern perspective rather than a historical anecdote. The opera, although its protagonist is a monarch, portrays a king with a plebeian feeling and pursuits. Nevertheless, it gives much food for thought as well as is of cognitive and aesthetic value.
