The authors earlier showed that vitamin deficiency in rats fed on stones caused an increase in urinary excretion of two of the major calculi, calcium and oxalate, and accelerated the formation of calcium oxalate stones in the gall bladder and kidney. To understand this phenomenon, the authors measured the intestinal transport of calcium and oxalate in vitamin A-deficient rats. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Thirty-two male, weanling Wistar rats were divided into two groups by their nests. The experimental group was fed with vitamins
