中国文学在漫长的发展过程中，情爱意识作为涌动的潜流而存在着，而以桑为母题 的情爱文学，则是情爱意识的载体，逐渐上升为一种文化表征。积淀的结果使其成为一种集 体无意识的情爱原型。这一母题的情爱文学主要特征之一便是善与美的动态平衡，孕育出一 系列悲剧因素。
