IBM公司与德州仪器公司 (Texas Instruments)合资建立的分公司Mwave所开发的数字信号处理器(DSP) 早已享有声誉。日前,该公司又推出了一套单芯片的DSP子系统——DSP 2780。它具有波表合成、基于硬件的声霸卡(Sound Blaster)、Windows声频系统以及传输速率为28.8 kbps的V.34调制解调器和传真等多项功能。据IBM公司负责Value Point Systems公司的主任Rod Adkins先生介绍:这种芯片将从1995年年中开始装上IBM的系统。他说:Big Blue公司正计划待到下一个周期的母板设计中加上这种芯片,因为在此之前,一切努力都是不切实际的浪费。到母板设计的下一个周期(通常为一年),这项技术的成本将趋于合理并不用占据母板的太多空间。
The Digital Signal Processor (DSP) developed by Mwave, a joint venture between IBM Corp. and Texas Instruments, has long enjoyed a reputation. Recently, the company introduced a single-chip DSP subsystem - DSP 2780. It features wavetable synthesis, a hardware-based Sound Blaster, a Windows audio system and V.34 modem and fax with a 28.8 kbps transfer rate. According to Rod Adkins, director of IBM’s Value Point Systems company, the chip will be shipping on IBM’s systems beginning in mid-1995. He said: Big Blue is planning to add the chip to its motherboard design for the next cycle, because until then, all efforts are unrealistic waste. By the next cycle of motherboard design (typically one year), the cost of this technology will tend to be reasonable and do not take up too much space on the motherboard.
