The famous painter and print artist Comrade Li Pingfan recently told me that he is going to hold a retrospective exhibition of works in Beijing. Rejoicing, I think of a deal with him past events. Ordinary comrade was born in Tianjin in 1922, began painting at the age of six. After the war of resistance against Japan broke out in 1937, ordinary comrades inspired themselves by China’s emerging woodcut advocated by Lu Xun to teach themselves woodcut. January 1943 participated in the Beijing Tianjin Jin Timber Exhibition organized by the Tianjin Youth Association. In July of the same year, he applied for Japan to work as an art teacher at the Chinese Tongwen School of overseas Chinese in Kobe and lived in Japan until returning to China in June 1950. After he arrived in Japan, he set up a new Collective Printmaking Association of overseas Chinese in Kobe in September of that year, and then edited and published a collection of prints of “duckweed” together with others. At that time, the reign of Japanese militarists who were in power expanded their aggression on the outside and a fascist crackdown was carried out within the country. All the members of the Association for Printmaking were transcribed by Japanese special police and the association was also forcibly dissolved. Since then, ordinary comrades began to study history of printmaking and collect Japanese printmaking. day
