According to the United Nations Economic Commission’s report, as of the end of 1995, Eastern European countries still average 20% below their 1989 average. At present, the economy of most countries has stopped falling and has risen somewhat since 1995, with an average growth rate of 5.3%. The situation in the countries of the former Soviet Union is still quite serious. Inflation in these countries has improved.
