Classroom teaching is the fundamental mode for Chinese students to learn English and is also the principal way to conduct teach-ing effectively. For the past years, the new learning mode of coopera-tive learning has been carried out widespread. More group work in class can provide students with more opportunities to practice their oral English. In the process of conducting this new mode, we can see the class climate does liven up and every member “moves”. However, when we look into, we find most of the activities become formalized than involved. This paper tries to explore the root causes of this phe-nomenon and then come up with the corresponding countermeasures. It is hoped that through the analysis we can get some ideas to cater the new learning mode to the need of Chinese students.
