法国作家Jean Anouilh的名剧Becket曾在1964年被改编搬上银幕,由彼德奥图和李察波顿联手演出,港译《雄霸天下》。故事描述亨利二世和贝克特之间的恩恩怨怨。12世纪的英国,国王和教会之间存在种种利益冲突和权力斗争。亨利二世和贝克特感情深厚,并封贝克特为首相。其后亨利二世又委任贝克特为坎特伯雷大主教,以为这样一来,教会和国王之间的矛盾可以消失,因为贝克特会忠心于他。谁知贝克特一旦成为大主教,却以教会的权益为重,和亨利二世发生尖锐冲突。亨利二世于是派出四武士将贝克特刺杀,而贝克特因此被天主教会封为圣人。
French actress Jean Anouilh's famous actress Becket was adapted in 1964 onto the screen, with Peter Ortho and Richard Bolton teamed up to perform the translation of “Dominating the World.” The story describes the grudges between Henry II and Beckett. In the 12th century Britain, there were conflicts of interest and power struggles between kings and churches. Henry II and Beckett deep feelings, and Feng Beckett as prime minister. Later, Henry II appointed Becket as Archbishop of Canterbury, thinking that the conflict between the church and the king could disappear because Beckett would be faithful to him. Who knows Beckett once became Archbishops, but the rights and interests of the Church, and Henry II sharp conflict. Henry II then sent four warriors to assassinate Beckett, and Becket was thus enshrined in the Catholic Church as a saint.
