Professor Robert Cole of the Rice University in Houston, United States, Professor Richard Smalley and Professor Harold Croto of the University of Sussex of Great Britain jointly won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1996. They received this award for discovering that carbon atoms are bonded together into a spherical structure.
