12150型柴油机功率大(最大520马力),转速高(2400转/分)。在工作时引起的惯性力、离心力、扭振等,使曲轴循环往复地承受着弯曲、扭转等力,因而产生很大的疲劳应力。曲轴的性能如何,是发动机寿命和工作可靠性最主要的标志。因而曲轴采用18Cr2Ni4WA钢(其化学成份要求为:0.14~0.18%C、0.17~0.37%Si、0.25~0.55%Mn、P、S≤0.03%、1.35~1.65%Cr、4.0~4.5%Ni、0.8~1.2%W),其机械性能要求见表1。疲劳试验要求σ-1≥50kg/mm~2
