随着资产阶革命的成功和工业革命的到来,欧洲各资产阶级国家在政治、军事、文化、经济等各领域开始处于世界的领先水平。各国开始大力的寻找工业产品的市场,打开中国市场成为很多国家的战略目标。从1840年英国打开中国国门后到1949年为止,各国相继与中国签订了上千个不平等条约,其中俄国通过不平等条约强迫清政府割让了数百多万平方公里的国土。
