Many Australians believe that the history of the country is inextricably linked to a mysterious “mahogany boat.” Recently, a team of archaeologists unearthed some pieces of mahogany while searching for the famous shipwreck on the coast of Warrnambool, southwestern Victoria, Australia. As the chip has not been proven to be from Australia, this excavation has aroused great interest from the interested parties in Australia and China. At present, the wood chips have been sent to China for radioactive carbon dating, and the estimation of the cutoff results of wood chips will not be seen until the first quarter of 2005. Some people think that the chipping out of the wood may prove that “the Chinese had discovered Australia far before the Europeans arrived and reached the eastern part of Australia.”
