Estradiol and testosterone have a strong negative feedback on LH. Naloxone (NAL) antagonizes the negative feedback of testosterone in ovariectomized rats, whereas morphine mimics the effect of testosterone. In ovariectomized females, NAL counteracts the negative feedback of estradiol. After administration of opioid peptides to humans or mice, LH was inhibited and LH was increased after NAL. However, women had no increase in LH at early follicular phase and lack of estrogen after menopause. In an effort to understand the correlation between sex hormones and opioid peptide inhibition of LH, the authors observed that in ovariectomized rats and their administration under sex hormone replacement, subcutaneous injections of NAL (2.5 mg / kg) or TK-33-824 (1 mg / kg, Peptide enkephalin analog).
