搜索引擎是使用网上信息不可缺的工具,已经经历了两个发展阶段。在初期阶段独领风骚的是Infoseek、Yahoo这样的传统搜索引擎,它们的局限性在于必须首先访问相应站点,然后才能进行搜索,而且每次只能访问其中的一个。当人们需要多快好省地进行信息搜索的时候,集成搜索引擎后来者居上,将搜索引擎带入发展的新阶段。集成搜索引擎以客户端程序的形式出现,能够同时访问多个传统搜索引擎及其它可搜索的站点,进而迅速高效地获得信息。目前最具代表性的是IQ98和Webseeker。
Search engines are indispensable tools for using online information and have gone through two stages of development. Leading the way in the early days were traditional search engines such as Infoseek and Yahoo that had the limitation of having to visit the site before they could search and only have access to one of them at a time. When people need to search information more quickly and economically, integrated search engines come from behind, bringing search engines into a new phase of development. The integrated search engine appears as a client-side program that provides access to multiple traditional search engines and other searchable sites simultaneously, enabling quick and efficient access to information. Currently the most representative is IQ98 and Webseeker.
