田汉是中国文化的巨人。他对中国文化事业,尤其是中国戏剧事业的发展,做出了巨大贡献。夏衍称田汉为“中国的戏剧魂”,他应当之无愧。从二十年代末到六十年代初期,无论“在野”或“在朝”,无论是作为一个文艺家或以戏剧界领导人的身份,田汉都始终如一地,对广东戏剧运动的发展,寄以了殷切的关注。田汉真正踏足广东只有三次,三次都只作短暂停留。然而,田汉对广东现代话剧运动的兴起和发展,对广东地方戏曲的改革和繁荣,却发挥了极大的影响力和推动力。田汉巨大的身影以及他那火一般的热情和辉煌的创造智慧,他那磁石般的人格魅力,产生了一种无形的力量,凝聚和滋养了广东几代剧人。
