Germany BASF company is developing direct production of olefins from syngas technology, and in the study of the principle of collecting CO 2 emissions, CO 2 will be used as chemical raw materials. The company disclosed the plan at the 22nd annual meeting of journalists and scientists held in Ludwigshafen in the near future. The syngas-to-olefins technology will use newly developed heterogeneous catalysts to convert syngas to hydrocarbons using Fischer-Tropsch synthesis. According to BASF, the use of syngas will provide the company with the potential to expand its base stock. The company can make use of crude oil, natural gas, coal and renewable resources to produce syngas, which can replace high-cost naphthas used in steam cracking.
