The article introduces the research results of the relationship between pitting corrosion of pipeline steel and stress and stress corrosion cracking. It can be found that the number of stress corrosion changes exponentially with the stress of the sample. In general, cracks are initiated by pits and their depth is logarithmic. From the mathematical analysis of the number of cracks and the depth of pits, one can obtain the assumption that the cracks will germinate from the bottom of the pits when the stress reaches the critical value at the bottom of the pits. The crack number increases with the stress due to the corresponding reduction of the critical pit depth, so that the number of pits with critical size increases
