Although contemporary African Americans have obtained legal freedom, they are still struggling painfully in the two conflicting and confrontational identities of their “blacks” and “Americans.” This article analyzes, from a religious point of view, the text of Tony Morrison’s work on behalf of African-American writers in the 1970s and finds that Tony Morrison, through his work, communicates to blacks her views on the issues facing contemporary blacks - A unified black religious thought that combines both self-racial and ethnic characteristics and a certain degree of compatibility with the white culture is an important condition for the black people to create their own history and culture.
