芍药(Paeonia lactiflora Pall.)原产我国及亚洲北部,花头艳丽硕大,品种繁多,是我国重要的宿根花卉之一。其观赏型多产于江苏扬州、山东菏泽(曹州)等地。药用型白芍产于浙江东阳与盘安、四川中江、安徽亳县及涡阳等地;赤芍产于内蒙古多伦、河北滦平与围场以及东北等地。 白芍味苦性平无毒。为缓和、滋养性的强壮剂,兼有镇静、镇痉、通经、利尿等作用。尤其是在妇科病处方中,白芍几乎在十例中需用八九剂。 芍药适应性强,南北各地均可栽种。它栽培粗放,简单易行,经济收益较高,因此是我国广大园林部门贯彻园林绿化与生产相结合的好材料。这基本符合于中央第四次城市建设工作会议精神中所提及园林绿化结合生产的标准:“既能丰富园林绿地的景色,又能创造物质财富;使用劳力少,管理成本低,应当有利于园林绿化的主要功能”。 芍药在江苏扬州、山东荷泽等地都成片栽种,好似种田一般只要注意选择栽培地点,合理栽植,加强培壅,花前花后适当管理,就能使其根深叶茂。如山东荷泽在1953年政府号召发展中药材生产后,通过引种繁殖,至1963年已由零星栽植发展至拥有芍田513亩之多。
