The literature published so far on the interpretation of horizontal well test data has two essential characteristics. (I) They use pressure drop rather than pressure-recovery data, and (ii) when plotting with special coordinates such as double logarithms, semi-logarithms, square roots, etc., they propose to use piecewise straight line data for piecewise analysis. The article discusses the shortcomings of the segmentation analysis method, and recommends that the analytical method be used only as a starting point for the more integrated holistic model. The method recommended in this article is applicable to interpretation of single-flow and multi-flow wells (including pressure recovery). The whole model approach can analyze piecewise non-linear data. Therefore, all the data it covers includes not only the data of the straight line segment but also the transition segment data between the straight line segments. The whole model approach requires the use of computer programs and can not be analyzed manually. Even though these programs are complicated and computationally cumbersome, computers on the general engineer’s desk can perform computations efficiently.
