目前,在国内合结齿轮钢都采用电炉和平炉冶炼、而且均采用圆钢锻制齿轮。作者于1980年1月提出“用纯氧顶吹转炉冶炼合结齿轮钢、用方坯代替圆钢模锻齿轮等”建议。好处:在不降低齿轮质量、不增加齿轮钢消耗、不改变现行齿轮制造工艺情况下,减少一半轧钢工序、节约成本、吨钢节约120公斤标准煤、降低齿轮材料费20%。而且还可以提高我国纯氧顶吹转炉炼钢及模锻水平。建议提出后,得到机械工业部(原农机部、一机部)、齿轮厂、拖拉机制造厂、汽车制造厂等支持。并于1980、1981年与南昌齿轮厂、第一拖拉机制造厂合作,进行纯氧顶吹转炉25MnTiBRE、20CrMnTi85方坯锻制齿轮试验,取得了良好的结果。试验与结果首钢纯氧顶吹转炉20CrMnTi、25MnTiBRE钢
