1991年3月17日,中共中央总书记江泽民参观韶山毛泽东纪念馆,看到毛岸英于1949年9月写给表舅向三立的信后,特意叫随行人员复印一份带回北京。 在长沙湖南省委招待所会议室,江泽民又特向与会人员念了信中的几段话,他意味深长地说:“我看了这封信,感慨系之。假如我们所有的干部对子弟都能像毛主席对待毛岸英一样,我们的党一定兴旺,我们的党一定为群众所拥护。” 向三立的父亲向理卿是毛岸英母亲杨开慧的舅舅,与青年毛泽东交往密切。 1949年9月向三立来到北京,经毛岸英和田家英的推荐,在新组建的中央财经委员会上班,成了国家机关一个极普通的财会工作人员。
