古希腊神话中的许德拉(Hydra)是一条凶猛的水蛇,每当它被砍掉一个脑袋,就会在原来的位置长出两个。多年前,在美国内战前夕,林肯告诫美国人说:“分裂的房子不能竖立”(寓意是国家面临垮台的危机)。
Hydra in ancient Greek mythology was a ferocious water snake that grows two in its original position whenever it is cut off from one head. Many years ago, on the eve of the U.S. civil war, Lincoln warned the Americans that “the split house can not be erected” (meaning the country is facing a crisis of collapse).
