1. Doctor of Medicine Hall comes back home from work and finds a silver antique and a world-famous painting missing. 医学博士霍尔晚上下班回家，发现一件珍贵银器古玩和一幅世界名画都不见了。
2. A policeman comes to the case. But the thief goes in from the window, leaving no fingerprints or footprints. 一个警察来破此案，可是窃贼是爬窗而进，没有留下任何指纹和脚印。
3. Suddenly, the policeman smells a fragrant smell. An apple is on the cupboard in the corner. It is just bitten. 警察正在沉思，忽然嗅到一股香味，原来屋角橱柜上放着一只苹果，这只苹果被人咬了一口，牙痕还挺新哩！
4. “Did you bite the apple?” he asks. “No, and my family members don’t, either.” answered the Doctor. “Don’t worry, the thief will come again in two days.” the policeman smiles. “您咬过这苹果吗？”他问博士。“没有，我家人也没有。”博士断然说。警察笑着说道：“放心，要不了两天，窃贼会自己找上门来的”。
霍尔按警察的吩咐去办，没隔两天，那窃贼果然来找博士。你知道警察用的什么妙计吗?
