In cell culture studies of the various cellular infectivity profiles of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) and HIV-2, the virus often nonspecifically binds to the cell surface and causes infection. Using low concentrations of trypsin, the authors treated cells that had bound to this virus for a short period of time to inactivate the virus and evaluated the practical effect of this method. The cells used were Leu 3a monoclonal antibody-purified CD4 ~ + lymphocytes: CD4 ~ + Sup-T (HIV-1 susceptible strain); CD4-B lymphocytes: Ramos and Raji; HIV was isolated from the blood of infected patients HIV-1 SF33.
