当一位美国朋友邀我去越南的“HUE”参加国际会议时,我对会议的地点竞一无所知。他解释说,这是越南古都,在中部。“莫非是顺化?”我想,但顺化怎么会用这几个字母呢?后来将英文地图与中文地图一对照,发现果然是顺化,这使我对越南汉字的译音产生了很大的疑惑。拿到机票,见由泰国曼谷进入越南的机场是DANANG,以为汉字应该用“大南”或“达南”一类,可是地图上在顺化附近无论如何也找不到这样的地名。反正我去越南是讲英语,所以就用“DANANG”称呼吧!在越南时听说这里原来是重要的美军基地,回国后在地图上对照,才知道就是越战时大名鼎鼎的蚬港。记
When an American friend invited me to “HUE” in Vietnam to attend an international conference, I did not know anything about the venue of the conference.
