配子形成在男女双方都受脑下垂体促性腺激素的控制。促卵泡成熟素(FSH)和促黄体生成素(LH)[在男性为促间质细胞素(ICSH)]促使配子发育和分泌性激素。性甾体帮助配子发育和成熟,并通过非常有效的反馈机理来调节促性腺激素的分泌。用雄激素、雌激素和孕激素抑制促性腺激素分泌是现代避孕药的基础。经典口服避孕药是一种合成雌激素和孕激素很好平衡的混合物,它抑制促性腺激素的分泌,从而制止排卵。
Gamete formation is controlled by both pituitary gonadotropin in both men and women. Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH) [in men as a mesophilin (ICSH)] promote gametogenesis and secretion of hormones. Sex steroids help gametogenesis and maturation and regulate gonadotropin secretion through a very effective feedback mechanism. Inhibition of gonadotropin secretion with androgens, estrogens and progestins is the basis of modern contraceptives. The classic oral contraceptive is a well-balanced mixture of synthetic estrogen and progestin that inhibits gonadotropin secretion and thus stops ovulation.
